HWA RANG KWAN is the oldest Korean martial arts center on the West Coast. Established in San Francisco in 1965, the purpose of Hwa Rang Kwan is to develop mind and body harmony, and by doing so achieve perfection of the human spirit.

Hwa Rang Kwan - literally, The School of Flowering Youth - is named after the Hwa Rang (Flowering Youth), the most famous warriors of ancient Korea. Founded in the sixth century, the Hwa Rang were enlightened individuals, schooled in both Confucianism and Buddhism. The Hwa Rang fought with dignity and nobility, and eventually brought an era of epic conflict to an end by unifying Korea for the first time.

Hwa Rang Kwan teaches students aged 4 years old and up the traditional Korean art of TAEKWONDO ("The Way of Foot and Fist Fighting" - a hard style which consists of fast and powerful strikes with hands and feet). The school also offers a great KICKBOXING program for those seeking physical fitness and self-defense, with several classes per week. PERSONAL TRAINING sessions and private lessons are also available, by appointment
